The amount of food on board the trampler is the number of quick respawns available for the crew. You also can just eat it to improve your well-being.

Canned Food is an Uncommon Consumable and is guaranteed to be found in Food Crates.

Canned food can be consumed to heal a small amount of player health, about half of a health segment. This can enable the recovery of lost health segments and re-enable health regeneration in these segments so long as they continue to remain unbroken. Not the best in active combat, as they only heal half of a segment and is time consuming to fully heal up from a critical state. Canned food is better suited to topping off the player's health in between fights without consuming the far more valuable Medkits which heal the player fully.

Placing canned food into your Trampler's refrigerator will allow you to respawn onboard after your death.
